In our experience many of the best traders and investors use charts to some degree. But whereas many people get too advanced with technical analysis, the good market participants use them simply.
One of the best ways to use charts is to look at relative performance, ie how is one stock doing against another or a sector or against a major index.
StockCharts.com publishes some excellent (free) tools for charting relative performance so check them out. You'll most probably like them.
