It's very tough to make money with options unless you either trade them very infrequently, or you're an options market maker.
Of course it's even harder when the market makers rig the market around expiration which as long been one of the worst kept secrets on Wall Street.
And academic confirmation of this has just been published by University of Illinois in the October issue of the Journal of Financial Economics.
