RSS HELP

What Is RSS & How It Can Help You

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it helps to easily distribute website information and content to anyone that subscribes to an RSS feed. Note that subsribing is always free.

RSS works beautifully when you are interested in many different websites whose content changes on an unpredictable schedule. So instead of having to visit many different sites on the off chance that there's new content you want to read, wouldn't it be better to have all the headlines delivered to you (from all the websites you follow) and then choose what you want to read.

  • Say you like to follow 30+ websites
  • With some RSS software installed on your computer you can check all 30 sites from the one program window without having to physically visit any of the sites in question
  • RSS is therefore a massive timesaver and brings some hyper efficiency to your web surfing.

And the good news is we've provided a quick guide to installing RSS, see below.

Where You Can Get A Free RSS Reader

To utilise RSS you need some RSS software. Some software costs money but it's not necessary to pay anything because there are plenty of free RSS Readers, or as they've often call RSS Aggregators

We use Abilon News which is 100% free.

How You Can Install The RSS Software

Follow these simple instructions to install the software -

  1. Click here for the download page
  2. Save the download to your computer and then when it's downloaded click the install icon of file and follow the onscreen instructions
  3. After installation the program will start and you'll get a 'Select Feeds' page, don't select anything and click 'OK'
  4. The software is now installed and you're ready to add your first feed, see below for instructions

How You Can Subscribe To This Website's RSS Feed

Now the RSS software is installed it's very easy to add a website's RSS feed. However, note that not all websites carry RSS feeds. The ones that do tend to be more serious about their online presence and add content or news on a regular basis.

If a website offers RSS then it will show small images like this on its Home Page -

Note that RSS & XML are the same thing.

  1. To add an RSS feed just click one of the buttons and an ugly looking page will open (the buttons above do not work, see next point )
  2. Highlight the address in the browser window which will look like this -

    http://www.stockmarket.julyblogs.co.uk/rss/feed.xml

  3. Make sure your RSS software is open and then click File - New - RSS or ATOM Feed
  4. A small window will open, paste the url in and click ok
  5. That's it, you will now have subscribed to the RSS feed of this website, it will be located under All Feeds in the Feed Window
  • In the Abilon software your different website RSS Feeds are located in the left window
  • The different headlines for that RSS feed are in the middle window
  • And the full stories in the right window
  • You may now want to add 2 other RSS feeds from other financial websites we run - just copy these URLs and paste them into your RSS Reader

Mozilla Live Bookmarks Is Another Way To Follow RSS Feeds

Live Bookmarks is a new technology in Mozilla Firefox web browser that allows a user to view RSS feeds without installing some RSS reader software.

When you see this image -

in either the bottom right of your Mozilla window (older versions) or at the right of the address bar then click it and it will automatically add that website's content to your bookmarks.

Add RSS Feeds to You Personalised Google Homepage, My Yahoo, My MSN & Other Blog Readers

You can also easily add this RSS feed to your personal homepage at Google, My Yahoo and other Blog reading software like Bloglines or FeedReader.

Whatever program you're using just click on one of the buttons below and follow the simple instructions.

Why You Should Subscribe To This RSS Feed

For starters every RSS feed is free and once you know how the simple software works and understand how useful RSS is it makes sense You can always unsubscribe with he click of a mouse. We also hold no information on you or your surfing habits.

We think you'll enjoy the Stockmarket.JulyBlogs.co.uk website. It carries good news, interesting trades, insightful comment and other bits and pieces from around cyberspace and the markets.

If you haven't already subscribed add this feed to your RSS reader -
