The UK Public Is Against Nuclear Power - Just Wait Till The Lights Are Switched Off.

Posted: Monday 1 November 2005 - Commodities Section

Right now selling Nuclear power to the citizens of the UK is one hell of a tough job, especially for those people that are going to be living near any proposed power plants.

But as one switched on industry executive remarked this week -

'Just wait until they regularly start to experience power cuts, then see just how quick they come round to thinking that the nuclear power option is the only sensible way forward.'

The UK has long term problems with sourcing its fuel especially as it now imports considerable amounts of coal from Muslim North African states. Who says they can't hold us to ransom at some stage in the future?

Interesting Facts

  • Nuclear fuels are carbon-free
  • The UK has only 12 N. power stations
  • France and Finland are planning more
  • Sweden and Germany are also planning more (this is a U-turn decision)
  • China, Russia, India, Japan and South Korea are all looking to nuclear power for their future power needs
  • If managed right, Nuclear power is cheap

It's therefore no wonder that the price of Uranium has tripled over the last few years.

A Tiny Speculative Uranium Play

  • We're shareholders of this small mining exploration company Agricola Resources which has a promising uranium claim in Northern Finland
  • If the claim proves to be successful then the share price has got 10p written all over it
  • The stock trades on London's OFEX market and stocks like this are very speculative so only invest small percentages of your total portfolio
